day 109
I jokingly refer to Rich as the "safety parent", which is a little ironic, seeing that out of the two of us my hobbies are pretty tame. But he's the one who gets all sweaty and nervous if we're anywhere near a balcony, if Jonas has a pencil, or even a cup without a lid. At least 10 times a day he can be heard to say "I don't think that's a very good idea" in reference to something I'm letting Jonas do.
Well, today we got Rich all packed up, ate tacos out of a food truck, and headed to the airport to see him off to Cairo. (It wasn't too sad, although I admit I did tear up a little at the end, and Jonas, who has been acting like he was glad "dad" was leaving, curled up to Rich's side, rubbed his arm and fell asleep the whole way there.)
But this all leads me to the above picture, with safety parent out of town and sparklers in a cambridge curbside free box, Jonas and I had a pretty exciting evening. I admit as soon as I gave my three year old a lit fire cracker I too got a little nervous, but he didn't burn himself, the bush, or me. So here's to trusting my kid more than is probably healthy and that in the next two weeks all of the Nielsens are kept safe.
Seven hours down, too many to count left to go.
day 107
Beach Day! Monday was so hot that our friends and half of Boston decided to head to the beach to get some relief. After a few hours of searching for a beach that wasn't closed due to crowding we ended up at Wingaersheek, which was quite a beautiful beach. There was a ton of rocks to climb on, tide pools with real live sand dollars (I hadn't realized that I had never seen one alive before, they kind of freaked me out.) It was our first time there, and ever since Jonas has been asking when we're going to the beach again and if we can always go back to "...winger...winger...wingerbeach".
Days 108? 106? Don't ask.
