This is me not letting winter win

I'm full of bad ideas, Rich can tell you. And I kind of had the sneaking suspicion that taking the kids to walden pond in the middle of winter, when the thermometer read 10 degrees just might turn out to be another one, but I was pleasantly surprised. As soon as we walked down to the beach I heard someone calling Jonas' name. As it turned out a kid from school was there too, which was probably for the best, bird watching with mom is only fun for so long.
Between reading Jeremy's Muffler every day for the past month and watching White Fang recently, I was a little nervous about walking onto a frozen pond, but the park rangers weren't stopping anybody, and none of the ice skaters seemed to be falling through the ice. It also helped that the guys ice fishing said the ice was about a foot thick, before politely asking us to go away, our kids were scaring away the fish.

Halloween

Oh kids and Halloween! This year Jonas wanted to be a ninja, which was pretty easy, except for all the time he spent talking to me about what ninja sword he should get. "It has to look real, and it needs to be green!" "Let's look on amazon again. How much is $60? Let's go to the store right NOW!" Lucky for me, and Willa, Target had a buy one get one free nunchuck sale. Two bucks later, problem solved, except...for the semi-violence that always ensues when you give two siblings nunchucks.

Willa, however, wanted to be Hello Kitty this year. She's a bit obsessed with this adorably cute cat, and I blame it all on my Mom. Since I'm not terribly crafty, and didn't really want to try and make a Hello Kitty costume when we happened to have an old Jonas pumpkin costume that would fit her just fine, I went to work convincing her she wanted to be a pumpkin. It half worked. After a while I would ask her what she wanted to be for Halloween and she would say "Hello Kitty Pumpkin!" So if you were wondering, like everyone else who kept asking her last night "So...what are you?" , now you know. It's just one very happy Hello Kitty Pumpkin.

Skipping School and Mt Auburn Cemetery

He looks sick, right? To our credit Jonas did wake up with a bit of a cold, so we kept him home to spare the other kids. But it was so beautiful, probably one of the best fall mornings yet, that we couldn't stay inside resting. It was quite the productive morning too, we got rid of the training wheels (this is HUGE!), got the snow blower fixed ( I'm so not ready for winter), and finally found Washington Tower at the Mt Auburn Cemetery.
