Day 50: Litchi Cake

On Thursday Angie gave us a guided tour of Chinatown's markets, needless to say we came home with quite a few items that will help us with our resolution.
Lately I've been hearing a lot about litchi, which got my curiosity up, but most of the comments were negative so I thought we might ease our way in by trying litchi cake. Anything in cake is good right?
Well after taking a bite or two, I'm not so sure anymore that anything in cake is good. Maybe there's a reason why they don't make litchi newtons.
Day 49: pork bun

Another Chinatown special. We popped into one of the dozen or so bakeries that they have downtown, just for this guy, but I couldn't help myself I also ended up buying a ginormous piece of chocolate cake, which lucky for me Rich didn't like, and a sesame red bean paste roll. The ladies that worked at this place were so nice, apparently they thought Jonas' face was too dirty so they cleaned him up for me, and taught us how to say pork buns which I think is something like Baoullsa ....?
day 48: broccoli rabe

If you thought broccoli was scary you should see this stuff, the bunch we bought was pretty hideous and intimidating. I was for sure that making broccoli rabe enjoyable was a lost cause, but boy was I surprised. We blanched it, then sauteed it, and it was good, but then we put it in a pasta dish with goat cheese and red pepper, and it was incredible.
day 47: rotolini

Meat+Cheese = Man Food How can it not be good?
day 46: taza chocolate ice cream

If you are reading this you should stop what you are doing and run to Cristina's Ice Cream in Inman Sq. They have a new flavor of ice cream called Taza Chocolate 80% dark. I can't tell you how good it is, it's that good. For starters all their ice cream is phenomenal to begin with, but when you add taza chocolate, a local bean to bar chocolate company, words can't describe.
sidenote: Jonas' belly doesn't normally hang out of his shirt, only when he's about to consume large amounts of ice cream
day 45: name

Valentines Day. How much do I love Rich? So much that I ordered him fry sauce straight from Utah and let him deep fry our food for the day, which will probably cut a few days off of his long life, but that's love right?
day 44: jalapeno plantain chips

Sorry I forgot to take a picture, they were pretty tasty, but look at those cheeks they're pretty tasty too.
day 43: almond butter

Almond butter is surprisingly strong and dense. The cookies we're great, especially with a cold glass of milk.
Thanks Megan.
day 42: napa cabbage

I decided it was about time I learned how to make egg rolls, since they are my first love. I blame myself not the napa, but they didn't quite turn out how the recipe described they would. They were still good enough that I ate most of them, but I'm itching to try it again soon.
