day 136

fava beans:

According to NPR these were probably the beans that Jack planted that grew into a giant bean stalk overnight and according to my friend Abby..."they're like spring in your mouth."

I can't vouch for NPR's claim, but I would have to agree with the spring thing, they're similar to edamame. So if you're in the grocery store debating which to choose, pick the fava beans it's like putting spring in your shopping cart; they're so big and funky looking it will scare you and make you feel healthy all at once. Maybe I'm falling out of love or something, but edamame just doesn't give me that feeling anymore.

day 135: veganaise. Rich here -- vegan imitations of non-vegan food always intrigue me, so I was excited to try veganaise at a party with some friends. It seemed a little saltier than regular mayonaise, and it was some how a little sharper as well. Some of this may be that I was eating it plain and it's definitely kind of weird to just eat mayo plain. But I couldn't bring myself to risk it with my entire burger.
