After googling for 5 minutes I couldn't seem to find much information about this member of the melon family. In my opinion it is very similar to a cantaloupe, but breed to be extra sweet, which it was. The outside is what caught my eye, if you can see by the little piece of peeling it has green strips. Apparently, this means that it was picked unripe, and probably shipped from South America, but pretty.
